Torture Garden posts 2024 dates and reviews its 2023 events

TORTURE GARDEN POSTS 2024 DATES AND REVIEWS ITS 2023 EVENTS

Torture Garden has once again solidified its reputation as the world’s most prolific fetish club by announcing 24 club dates for 2024 in the first days of the New Year, when most kink promoters are still nursing festive hangovers.

Heading the dates currently announced are 17 events across the year in London alone, including the now familiar double Ball dates for Valentines in February, its Birthday in April and its Christmas celebrations in December. In addition, TG will again host no less than four Halloween Balls in 2024, spread across the end of October and start of November.

The club has also scheduled six UK parties outside London — four in Edinburgh and two in Manchester — and, at the time of writing, two European dates in Rome and Berlin. TG’s international schedule for 2024 will almost certainly be further boosted by parties in several US cities.

In their January round-up of 2023’s Torture Garden highlights and the club’s plans for the coming year, TG’s top team of Allen, Charlotte and Yasmin began by thanking their audiences for “bringing your energy, love and creativity” to TG nights around the world in 2023.

“We can produce the backdrop, put all the elements in place,” said their joint statement, “but it’s always the guests that make the parties what they are. We're so grateful to every one of you for being a part of it!”

Highlights the team chose from 2023 included TG July — Village Fete — an event held at a time of year when UK fetish partying traditionally goes a bit quiet. TG said: “We absolutely loved how you embraced this most British of institutions as a tongue in cheek theme! The dresscode that night really stood out; it was meant to be a one-off but it might be too good not to repeat…”

They considered that creatively, Valentine's Voyeuristic Love and Halloween’s Toy Factory weekends were “great opportunities to push ourselves with the spaces we love to work in”. Curating the new PlayHaus room, they added, “allowed us to focus more on fetish and body art installations in this space”. Consequently TG are hoping to bring this back again this year.

Torture Garden’s year-ending Not New Year’s Eve Balls at Ministry of Sound are legendary, and 2023s gathering, on December 30 as usual, was no exception. “We know it’s a firm favourite with a lot of you,” said the organisers. “It's a night that always leaves us buzzing with such a special TG Family vibe.”

Outside London, a major milestone of 2023 came with the successful launch in September of TG Manchester at Hidden. “We found our TG home there, and we’ll be back for two dates this year,” they announced.

Torture Garden Edinburgh nights at the Caves are now well-established, but November saw the club host its first Edinburgh two-nighter. It has been pronounced “a roaring success”, and will therefore be repeated again in November 2024. Meanwhile, for those who don’t want to wait that long for the next TG Scottish sojourn, tickets of the March 2 edition of TG Edinburghg o on sale at noon on January 31.

Outside the UK, one of the most exciting developments for the club has been Torture Garden Ibiza. Last year saw the event grow, taking on more dates over the summer. Info about this year's Ibiza parties, though not yet finalised, will be coming soon. Elsewhere in Europe, 2024 will see TG Italy turning 15, while TG Berlin is consolidating last year’s two successful parties into a single, bigger yearly event to be held in September.

Last but not least, 2023 saw TG’s USA team launching in San Francisco, and, after a long hiatus due to covid, TG Japan was finally able to open its doors again! More news about events in these locations is expected soon.

Innovative fashion shows were a major feature of 2023’s TG offerings, with avant-garde catwalks from FG Tomassi (courtesy of TG Italy) and Eve Kann, latex couture from House of Harlot, and the TG debut of PainKiller Clothing — one of a number of first-time appearances that helped maintain TG’s reputation in 2023 for showcasing new artists.

Performance highlights of 2023 included a double hook suspension from Luca Federici, Cynth Icorn and State of Bliss; Skinny Red Head’s shibari and Mel Lee’s aerial pole — all at Scala. Notable international guest performers included Suka Off, Mako, Enjo Flint, ReveRso and Eli el Sultan.

The TG Team concluded their roundup by admitting that not everything about 2023 had been easy. For example, the club had been among a number of fetish organisations that had lost their Instagram accounts due to the kind of Meta meddling that people in the kink community have become only too familiar with. (The account has since been reinstated but TG urge everyone to follow their backup account in case it happens again.)

And, adds the team: “The increase in costs that all of us are having to face has added its challenges. But we’re lucky enough to say the highs outweigh the lows by a long way.”
