LAM EXPANDED: MARKET DEBUTS AT THE STEEL YARD WITH 40 STALLS

On Sunday June 7London Alternative Market aka LAM expanded its exhibitor participation by around 30 percent for its debut at new monthly venue The Steel Yard, located in the arches under Cannon Street Station, at 13-16 Allhallows Lane, London EC4R 3UE.

LAM’s debut at the new venue saw it accommodating 40 exhibitors — more than LAM has ever hosted before — in two of its three arches: the Main Arch and smaller Red Room, the latter subsequently becoming the main dungeon play space for the evening’s Afterparty. LAM workshops were staged on the Mezzanine Level, which was converted into a rope room with “premium soft safety matting and a solid suspension cube” for the 5:30pm Peer Rope session and Afterparty.

As well as increasing its exhibitor list, LAM expanded its workshops for its Steel Yard debut. The event’s regular socials and workshops — the 1pm Newbie Meet and Greet, 2pm Healthy Mental Practices by The Kink Shrink, and 5.30pm Peer Rope LAMdon by Opalfruit — were augmented at 4pm by a guest workshop on Adaptivity in Play presented by exhibitor Diable Designs. The Red Room — described as “a completely separate, massive dedicated zone” — closed at 6pm, to be set up for the Afterparty which was scheduled to start between 7pm and 7.15pm.

The relaunch was well attended, with exhibitors reporting seeing many new faces as well as LAM regulars. We don’t know if all the vendors were delighted by the higher stall costs levied by LAM for the event, or the £45 NCP charges some had to shell out to park near the venue. But the degree to which such increased costs impact a vendor generally depends on what level of sales they achieve on the day, which can potentially be affected by several variables.
